Rosengarten was born in Montréal in 1933 and received his B.A. in 1956 from Sir George Williams University. He received his formal training under Anthony Caro, Eduardo Paolozzi and Elisabeth Frink at the St. Martin's School of Arts in London, while he studied bronze casting at the Central School. He worked as stone carver on architectural projects for sculptors Eric Winters and José Alberdi before returning to Québec to open with his friend Leonard Cohen, the Four Penny Gallery in Montreal, as a venue for contemporary art and poetry.

Today Rosengarten lives and works at his studio in the Eastern Townships where, as a reviewer noted in Vie des Arts, he practises his art « avec vigueur et constance ... loin des milieux officiels ».

Known as a sculptor as well as an artist of life drawing, Rosengarten is primarily concerned with the human body and its representation. Rosengarten’s work has been shown in Québec and abroad, and he has held one-man exhibitions at the Egan Gallery in New York, the Marlborough-Godard Gallery in Montréal, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Sherbrooke has shown a retrospective of his work in 2004.

Rosengarten est né à Montréal en 1933 et a obtenu son baccalauréat de l’université Sir George Williams en 1956. Il a poursuivi ses études à Londres à la St.Martin's School of Arts avec les sculpteurs Anthony Caro, Eduardo Paolozzi et Elisabeth Frink, tout en étudiant le coulage du bronze à la Central School. Il a aussi travaillé comme tailleur de pierre sur les chantiers architecturaux des sculpteurs Eric Winters et José Alberdi avant de rentrer au Québec pour ouvrir avec son ami Leonard Cohen, la Four-Penny Gallery rue Stanley à Montréal, comme lieu d’exposition d'art contemporain et de lieu de rencontre de poètes.

Aujourd’hui Rosengarten travaille à son atelier dans les Cantons-de-l’Est où, comme l’a écrit un critique dans Vie des Arts, il pratique son art « avec vigueur et constance ... loin des milieux officiels ». Connu comme sculpteur autant qu’un artiste du dessin d'après modèle, Rosengarten s’intéresse avant tout au corps humain et à ses représentations. Ses œuvres ont été exposées autant au Québec qu’à l’étranger, dont entre autres une exposition solo à New York à la Egan Gallery, et à Montréal à la Galerie Marlborough-Godard, alors qu’une rétrospective lui a été consacrée au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Sherbrooke en 2004.
